Ranger Mine tailings dredging
Following an extensive six-month tender process with mine operator Rio Tinto, Hall was awarded the contract for the dredging and reclamation of approximately 26.8 million tonnes of uranium tailings at Ranger Mine in the Northern Territory. The thorough tender process included on-site audits of our head office and dredging operations.
Our team dredged tailings from a tailings storage facility (TSF) to Pit 3 using a stainless steel dredge, Jabiru, which was purpose-built by Rio Tinto. In addition to operating the dredge, Hall was tasked with maintaining the supplied plant and infrastructure, which were subject to the highly corrosive nature of the acid tailings water.
Hall began operating an additional dredge, Brolga, on site in August 2019, with both dredges working 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
