Hail Creek Mine tailings dredging

Hail Creek Mine tailings dredging

Hail Creek Mine – located 140km south-west of Mackay and 50km north-east of Nebo in central Queensland – supplies international markets with hard coking and thermal coal.

With sedimentation in a polishing pond affecting operational efficiency, Rio Tinto contracted Hall to dredge the pond. Our team used cutter suction dredge (CSD) Navua to remove 165,000m3 of material and pumped this to a tailings storage facility (TSF) approximately 1.5km away. Hall’s dredge pipeline had an elevation of approx. 80m and required two booster pumps.
